Issues Affecting Ward 2

4

SMART CONSTRUCTION

Smart construction is used all over North America, but we do not. When a contractor wins a bid, they are given a deadline, if they fail to finish by the deadline, they will be penalized for each day they go over but if they beat it, they will be rewarded a bonus for each day. This will push contractors to hire more workers to ensure projects are finished in a timely manner.

5

COMMUNITY SAFETY

Keeping Ward 2 safe is a top priority. I will be working with residents, law enforcement, and local groups to address issues like break-ins, vandalism, encampments, and suspicious activity.

6

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Quickly approving new housing developments, like the one planned at 2121 Riverside Drive West are crucial for Ward 2. I am committed to increasing our supply of affordable housing units throughout Ward 2.

7

TRUCKS ON
HURON CHURCH

As soon as the Gordie Howe international bridge is finished, I will ensure the removal of all international trucks from Huron Church. By removing these trucks from our city street we will reduce traffic congestion, improve our air quality and improve the safety on our roads.

8

PARKS AND PUBLIC SPACES

There are many, many great parks and green spaces within Ward 2. I an advocate for Ojibway to become a National Park and I will fight to maintain our wonderful parks throughout the Ward and City. I have heard from many residents in Ward 2 about the state of many of our parks and I could not agree more. We need to have better access to our parks, increase the number of dog parks throughout Ward 2, improve the lighting in parks and set aside more property to ensure as we grow as a Ward, we will have adequate green space moving forward.

9

ABANDONED HOUSES AND BUILDINGS

I will ensure that all the houses owned by the Ambassador Bridge Company that has become dilapidated and abandoned are torn down and redeveloped into new housing and green space. The bridge company has already started this process but we have to ensure they finish the job and then redevelop these properties to allow families to move back to these areas. This is vitally important to our Ward.

WHAT ISSUES DO YOU SEE

There are many other issues affecting our community and I would love to hear from you about these. Please send me an email at brian@vote4green.ca or call me at 226-774-3666 to discuss the issue or issues that are effecting you the most.

1

SPEEDING ON
RESIDENTIAL STREETS

Speeding on our streets is out of control, I hear it from just about every person I speak to. We need to do a better job on a city level to ensure the safety of the people that live here. We need to employ more traffic calming measures to ensure drivers are not being reckless in our communities.

2

PRO-ACTIVE BILAW
ENFORCEMENT

Now we have a creative bylaw enforcement, I would like to see a proactive approach taken to this department. If a citizen calls 311 or uses the 311 app for a messy yard or unkept grass the bylaw enforcement officer will only issue a warning for that house, not the houses in the area that may have the same issue. I would like them to look throughout the area to take care of any potential issues before they become problems. We would need to hire more bylaw officers, but our communities would be cleaner and therefore safer for the people that live in that area.

3

RESIDENTIAL RENTAL
LICENCE

I am fully in favour of bringing back the RRL on a city-wide basis. I have heard from homeowners and landlords alike that our rental system is broken and this can fix it. I do not want to adversely affect good landlords with this bylaw, so I plan to put forth the "Good Landlord Clause". If a home or unit passes inspection on the first inspection, they should not need another licence for at least 3 years. We need to target absentee landlords and the ones that disregard their communities and neighbours.
